To Heck With Being Politically Correct

To heck with being politically correct. Let's take an honest look at some of the messed up things in the world around us. Shall we start with Miley Cyrus? She's been all over the news for her obscene and disgusting behavior. But what's behind it? Could it possibly be that her dad's unconditional love without any discipline or censuring has made her feel that whatever she does is perfectly fine? Hmmm. I don't get the feeling her daddy has been sticking up for values that would engender respect for herself or others.

Or maybe it's partly society's fault- for accepting such behavior in general and for encouraging "strong" sexy women who aren't afraid of celebrating their sexuality in a very public (and often indecent) way. Since when did we become afraid to say that women who dress like sluts, act like a dog in heat, and show no respect for themselves or other women are unacceptable? Why should I be "politically correct" and act like it's okay for a woman to dress and act any way she wants just because we live in the twenty-first century? Is this liberation??

Here's some non-censored truth for you: it's repulsive. And not okay. Just because someone has the legal right to dress and act like an immoral hussy doesn't mean that they should. In fact, these women should start giving some serious thought to the kind of world they're creating with such behavior.

Shall we talk about the popular song "Blurred Lines?" It's another example of degrading and sick "art" that shows the low level of respect that men have for women nowadays. And can you blame them?? Here's where I'm going to really make some ladies angry- if a woman dresses provocatively, performs moves that should only be done in private, and otherwise acts like she's actively interested in sex with a man...why wouldn't that guy think she wants to have sex with him?? What normal man wouldn't be confused when a woman gives one loud and clear YES with her body but then says "no" with her mouth? I'm not saying it's okay for a man to rape a woman. If a woman says "no," that means no, and he has to respect that and back off. But women need to get real and take some responsibility for their own safety and well-being here. You can't offer someone a cookie and then get mad when they want to eat the whole thing, rather than just taking a small nibble. Let's stop acting like women are nothing but victims- there are too many out there who are encouraging bad behavior and even assault with the way they put themselves out there. If you don't want to have sex with someone, don't act like it. Pretty simple solution, right? Be smart!

It's really no wonder songs are being written that glorify "domesticating," assaulting, disrespecting, and dominating women. And what woman in her right mind finds that kind of attitude attractive and desirable? Wake up, women! Start respecting yourself and recognize that there's more to you than just your body and sexuality. I know that's hard to internalize since we're being constantly bombarded on every side with messages about staying young, thin, sexy, and desirable. But we are so much more than the outer shell we inhabit! Let your personality, your sense of humor, your kindness, loyalty, compassion, and love be what defines you. Let's create a media sensation with something good and worthwhile!

The other thing that really gets me about this whole awards show fiasco is that a parents group is now up in arms about the adult content. Really?!? Because most parents don't know that MTV is targeting an adult audience? Who doesn't know nowadays that MTV is adult rated content? And if you know this...why would you have your kids watching something on it in the first place? I don't care if it's an awards show or not- use your head and put two and two together. If a station with adult content does an awards show it's going to have some adult content. Duh. And if you couldn't figure that out from the kind of station MTV is...just listen to some of the music and watch the videos for the songs that are being celebrated. Another great big DUH. You know when we'll see something actually being done to prevent this crap from being on tv? When enough people who want decent, uplifting, clean shows refuse to tune in. Until then, it's our job as adults to pay attention to the lyrics in the songs, the behavior of the artists who perform them, and the content of the stations to decide whether or not we want our children to be exposed to that media.

What's really ironic is that I didn't even have to tune in to MTV to be affected by this. It's all over the news and social media. I've read and seen enough to know that there have been a lot of poor choices being made and too few people are willing to just "say it like it is." I'm tired of everyone tip-toeing around stuff like this, as if it's just an anomaly in our otherwise chaste world. Humph. Wake up, people. Unless we start speaking up about how wrong it is, it's just going to keep getting worse.

Say it like it is! Amen to everything you said. Every single person has the responsibility for their own actions and more people need to stand up and say, "This isn't acceptable!"
